The difference in earnings between men and women have decreased over the last few years but a significant discrepancy remains. The uncontrolled gender pay gap calculates the overall earnings of all women to the earnings of all men. The uncontrolled gender pay gap states that women currently earn $0.79 for every dollar a man earns. This number varies notably between women of different races.

 

What many often fail to understand is this gap is largely caused by the fact that women are less likely to hold high-paying positions or positions of power due to organizational barriers that keep women from advancing in the workplace.

 

When years of experience, job title, industry, and geographic locations are taken into account, the controlled gender pay gap is still substantial at $0.98 earned by women for every $1 earned by a man.
