7 Tips to Increase Work Productivity

Most people assume that being productive means doing more in less time. In principle, this is true. Those who efficiently manage their projects and time definitely tend to accomplish more than other people do.

However, productivity is more of a lifestyle rather than hat tricks. Here are some career tips and advices from Herrine Ro, TheLadder contributor, to help you get into a productive rhythm.

1. Take some downtime
Instead of starting your work day going through emails, which puts you in a reactive mindset rather than a proactive one, start the day off creating a to-do list so you can direct your full attention towards the most important tasks you would like to accomplish for the day.

2. Prioritize your work
We all face a mountain of work each week, never mind each day. Although it sounds illogical, minimize stress by organizing projects regularly.

Start off with the tasks that take the most determination and focus. Busy work and the more enjoyable responsibilities should be put off until the end of the day.

3. Block out potential distractions
Constant emails, text message notifications, and talkative neighbors can constantly get in the way of staying focused. Invest in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones and play music to improve your focus.

Don’t be afraid to shut your office door when you have important projects to work on, your co-workers will understand.

4. Regulate weekly meetings
One of the best ways to manage your time more efficiently is to avoid meetings with no clear objective or cause. With every meeting request determine if your presence is absolutely necessary. If not, decline invitations for these kinds of meetings or provide an alternative method of communication or resolution.

5. Stay in for lunch
Start packing your lunch instead of going out. This not only gives you full control of what you eat, but you can also pack foods that are great fuel for your brain.

Choosing to stay in for lunch does not mean you have to be focused on your computer screen. Instead take this time to rest and regroup.

6. Posture is everything
An unhealthy posture can negatively affect your spine and cardiovascular health. Find yourself an ergonomic chair that has back support or try a standing desk to keep your body fresh.

7. Take regular productivity breaks
Many of us suffer from afternoon lethargy. Try taking your focus off of work and look around, stand up and walk around every hour or so to get the blood pumping.
