Tips and Tricks for Acing Your Video Interview:
- Set your computer, laptop, or phone on a platform that is eye-level to you when sitting down. A stack of books works well to prop up your device to the ideal position.
- If you are using your cell phone for a video interview, don’t hold the phone in your hand! Find a place to set it down. The camera movement is distracting to the interviewer.
- Don’t sit too close to the camera - frame yourself in the screen so some body language is visible.
- Sit where there is a light source illuminating your face – either from a window or a lamp.
- Do your best to have a plain background behind you. Try to remove clutter and personal items so the other person is not distracted.
- Dress to impress. Treat the interview like you would if you were to meet with them in an office environment. Yes, that means you should wear pants!
- Practice logging into the meeting beforehand – preferably at least 15 mins before the scheduled meeting time to troubleshoot issues if they arise.
