Project Accounting Specialist

We’re seeking a sharp, detail-oriented Project Accounting Specialist with project accounting skills to join our accounting team and support exciting, high-impact projects—from airport terminals to university buildings, community spaces, and healthcare facilities.
About the Role
This full-time, onsite position is ideal for someone with a background in construction or architectural accounting or project coordination.
You’ll work closely with the Accounting Manager and project teams, ensuring timely and accurate billing, tracking consultant costs, managing accounts payable, and backing up payroll functions. Our team uses Deltek (experience helpful but not required), and while we operate on a cash basis, project billing often mimics accrual accounting processes—so an understanding of accrual concepts is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and execute project billing, including complex AIA-style invoicing
- Process accounts payable and perform reconciliations for consultants and vendors
- Provide backup for payroll processing
- Support project teams with financial documentation, tracking, and reporting
- Collaborate with internal staff, consultants, and vendors to resolve billing and financial issues
- Maintain detailed records and support month-end reporting
About You
- Experience in project coordination and project-based accounting, preferably in architecture, engineering, or construction is highly valued but not required
- Strong working knowledge of AP, project billing, and financial reconciliation
- Familiarity with AIA billing processes (lien waivers not required)
- Proficient in Excel and comfortable learning new software (Deltek experience is a bonus)
- Collaborative, organized, and detail-oriented with a proactive attitude
